Changes to 4.5: Increased the number of databases allowed from 15 to 84.
Journal screen cleanup. The program's "Scan Threshold" is saved when the
program ends. (This should cut down on bother here. - another Art Heely
improvement) Added a new "Overall" command. For both the 525 and the 535, this
command allows you to change the 5Khz offset used with the "+" and "-"
commands. (UTE cats should thank Art Heely for this one too.) For the 535,
This command also allows setting some of the difficult to set default settings
done with the "MEMO FUNCTION ENTER" sequence. These include the Filter bypass
(your welcome, Art), the BFO offset and the SSB shift. Added a mode to the
Move command to allow clearing all channels - enter 999 for the channel number
- (your welcome, again Art). Fixed a hang condition experienced by at least
one 525 user. (The 525 sometimes returns all zeros rather than valid data -
changed the retry code that masks this problem to avoid an infinite loop -
thanks to Tim Dobbins for his help with this). Fixed display going into
"Banana Land" when deleting an empty file in the journal. Fixed the 525 being
left in "Informaton mode" after exiting the program and when in the Journal.
Increased the time samples used in Time Domain plotting. Fixed (I hope) the
cursor not being highlighted over marked areas on CGA displays. Fixed a minor
clock bug.
Changes for 4.4. Added Red highlighting for the cursor line when moving over a
marked area (previously, the cursor was hard to spot). Added a special case to
the scan and marked search modes: If the threshold is set to 0dB, the program
uses the squelch status rather than the radio status to determine the radio's
threshold status. This speeds up scanning considerably and is especially
useful when the RF gain is not set at maximum. Thanks to Arthur Heely for this
and numerous other suggestions / helpful comments. Changed the CTL-N command
to CTL-L to eliminate a conflict with the CTL-PgUp command. Receiver display
overhead reduced - minimizes screen flashes with S-Meter readings. Fixed
an intermittant hang condition that occured when using the S-Meter and manually
tuning the radio. Fixed an embarrasing bug preventing use with B&W monitors
(thanks to Tom Sundstrom for finding this one). Fixed a bug with the threshold
display showing 0.00 versus 0.10 -- thanks to Art Heely for finding this one.
Fixed the receiver being locked after a marked target is found in marked
search mode -- thx Mr. Heely, again.
NRD535 version D ROM. If you are an early NRD535 user, you should contact
Paul Lannuier at (212) 355-1180. He just sent me an improved manual, a
6mhz wide filter (replace an 8mhz one included on early versions -- really
helps keep the ecss mode lock!!!), and new ROMs. If you CPU board has an
EPROM with a "B" suffix, you have the old version. This version eliminates
the need to set the RTTY mode to off to prevent hang conditions (removes the
need for the RTTYOFF program). This ROM also seems to eliminate the
senthesizer burp heard each time the radio was put in remote mode (this makes
the s-meter useable in non-AM mode!) Channel changes made from the front
panel are now echoed to the program. There are probably other helpful fixes
and you should get this update.
Changes for 4.3. Minor bug fix in inc/dec frequency for the 535. (The
receiver status was not being updated if the s-meter was off). Added s-meter
readout to scan modes.
Changes for Version 4.2. Added automatic display update when manually tuning
the radio for the 525 so this now works identically (a bit slower) to the 535.
(I did not think this mode was support on the 525!!!) Major changes are new
modes added to the "+" and "-" commands for 535 users. These new modes allow
searching for the next above threshold frequency; the next above threshold
marked line; or a scan mode that will resume searching a marked list if the
signal falls below threshold. See the documentation on these commands. Some
new commands and display items were added to modify/see the search threshold
and mode. Added "moVe" command to move marked entries to NRD memory channels
(Thanks to Michael Graver for this one). Minor fixes: AGC not being set
correctly on 535. Bug with Search cursor position. Bug in printer config for
525 users. Changed "CTL-U" command to "CTL-N" to get around a conflict with
the right arrow key. Minor tweak to print to squeeze more info on the line.
A fair amount of documentation tune up.
Changes for version 4.1. Added "F" command to allow setting the frequency
directly. Added Search function. Increased flexibility for Mark and
Unmark. Thanks to Michael Graver for these ideas. Improved sort to allow
sorting by the comment field. Added ASCII file import and export. Many
thanks to Thomas Mann for his ideas and assistance with this. Printing now
will print the entire database OR marked lines. Previous versions did only
marked lines and the documentation did not indicate this.
Changes for version 3.6: Bug fix for timer. My need to delete config.dat
if timer does not read the correct time. Sorry about this one!
Changes for version 3.5: Insured that "Continue" to Spectral plot
resumes at the frequency where it left off. Insured Stop Frequency entered is
higher than Start Frequency for Spectral Plots. Added "8" alias for "*"
command for keyboards without an unshifted "*". Made Frequency Search put
cursor at top of screen to simplify viewing all entries at this frequency.
(My thanks to Arthur Heely for these last two suggestions). Added user
defined printer control string to the configuration file. This generalizes
compressed printing to any printer type. (Thanks to Tom Mann for this idea).
Changes for Version 3.4: By popular demand, journals can be selected by either
name OR number. (Previous versions required typing the name). Several bug
fixes: Previous versions allowed the cursor to go below the last record with
some wierd side effects. Importing DB files from Tom Sundstrom's English
Language DB did NOT put a value in the attenuator column. (This caused entries
to NOT be loadable on the NRD535). Fixed several bugs with Journal. Added
date and time stamp to the status line (kudos to Michael Graver for this and
numerous other good suggestions). Added a "Find" mode to Spectral plots -
read NRD.DOC on Spectral plots.
Version 3.3 spiffs up the graphics displays -- see documentation. Biggest
gain is spectral plot performance and addition of average function.
***NEWS FLASH***: Version 3.2 adds the following NRD535 features: S-Meter
display (see the "R" command) and graphical displays of signal strength over
time and frequency (see the "G" command). Several NRD535 bugs fixed. No
changes (intentionally) made for the NRD525 for this release.
***NEWS FLASH***: Version 3.0 adds control for the NRD535. Version 3.1
Fixed program hang if user incorrectly enters the db name in "Journal". Added
continuous update of receiver status display for the 535
***NEWS FLASH***: With version 2.5, you can import data from Tom Sundstrom's
English language schedule to NRD. To accomplish this, copy the file SWSKED.DBF
into the NRD subdirectory and select "J" for "Journal" then "I" for "Import".
This file is NOT included and must be purchased from TRS Consultants (609)
859-2447. Tom offers an update service. THIS PROGRAM ASSUMES THAT YOU HAVE
COMPLETED THE UPDATE PROCEDURE HIS DOCUMENTATION CALLS FOR PRIOR TO USE.
***NEWS FLASH***: Version 2.6 adds a handy feature if you switch back and
forth between logs. Now when you switch logs with the Journal command, the
previous log becomes an "Inactive" log. A new "A" for "Alternate" command has
been added to allow toggling between the "Active" and "Inactive" logs without
having to go back through the longer Journal command sequence. A new status
line at the bottom of the screen has been added to show both the "Active" and
"Inactive" logs. In addition, a new "Write" command has been added to copy
from the "Inactive" log to the "Active" one. (The cursor line gets copied).
The more tedious "Mark" and "Write" procedures are still useful for copying
multiple lines from one log to the next but write will save you time. To
illustrate how these new commands might be used, consider this example: It is
dawn and you are using your "INDO TARGET" log to search for new stations. You
find one! You use the "Confirm" command to update the time and date in the
target log and use the Journal command to bring up the log you use to keep
confirmed catches. To save time, you don't bother to find the "proper" place
in this log for this station (you can sort it later). You hit the "W" for
"Write" key and the entry appears. Now hit the "A" for "Alternate" key and you
are back in "INDO TARGET". Find another one? Confirm it and just hit "A" for
"Alternate" again to toggle back to the main log and use "W" again.
Also significantly beefed up the documentation with this release.
